We're Celebrating America Saves Week

Started in 2007, America Saves Week was established to help families learn how to save successfully. Every year, financial institutions and other organizations across the country come together to share savings resources with their customers and members.

This year, America Saves Week is being recognized February 25 - March 2, 2019. We will be sharing resources on our blog, on Facebook and sending emails with savings tips. You can check back here over the course of the week to see a complete list of savings tips and resources.

To reward your savings efforts, we’re also giving away ten $50 Amazon gift cards. You can enter here and winners will be announced on Monday, March 4, 2019. If you have questions or need help creating a savings plan of your own, we’re here to help! We encourage you to give us a call or stop by a branch so we can help you plan for the future.

About This Year's Savings Topics

Check back each day for updates to our list of Resources for Saving!

Save with a Plan: Did you know that savers with a plan are at least twice as likely to save successfully for things like retirement or their children’s education? Check some tips on our blog for creating a monthly budget that you can stick to.

Save Automatically: The easiest and most effective way to save is automatically. You can set up automatic transfers through your Gulf Winds account and through your paycheck to your retirement account. We shared some tips on our blog for how to prioritize your savings strategies.

Save for the Unexpected: Establishing a plan is a great first step to set yourself up for success in saving, but not everything will go according to your plan. It's important to expect the unexpected and have money set aside for a flat tire or broken appliance. You can read more about saving for emergencies on our blog

Save to Retire: The general recommendation is that Americans should be putting 15% of their salary each month toward retirement. Yet, studies show that few Americans have adequate savings for retirement. It may seem overwhelming to consider saving that much of your income, but you can start small and build up over time. We have some great tips on our blog to help you get started.

Save the Extra: Raises, bonuses and tax refunds can be unexpected sums of cash we don't plan on when we create a budget. So why not save that extra money as you come into it? Did you know you’re more likely to save a lump sum than a small amount consistently over time? This tax season, get ahead of your financial goals by deciding on an amount or percentage of your refund to place directly into savings. We have more tips on our blog for how you can make your tax return work for you.

Save as a Family: Good savings habits start at home. You can model good financial habits for your children by saving money from your paycheck, delaying purchases until you can afford them, and establishing a monthly budget. But, you can also help to make saving fun by including your kids in budgeting for family outings and having friendly competitions. We've shared some ideas on our blog to help you get started.
