Q&A with Angela Lane, Gulf Winds Mortgage Loan Officer
What is your role as a Mortgage Loan Officer at Gulf Winds? My role as a mortgage representative for Gulf Winds is to be out in the community to assist Realtors by providing exceptional service to their clients. From the initial meeting and pre-qualification to the closing table, I am with clients from start to finish.
Can you tell us a little about your experience in the financial industry handling mortgages? I started my career in real estate as a senior in high school. I worked as an office manager in the afternoons for a Century 21 office. I got the bug for sure! I accepted a position with a local bank after graduation and proceeded to work swiftly up the ladder, gaining experience in all facets of the mortgage process. I have loved each of the positions I’ve held. I have been a processor, a funder, an underwriter and a loan officer. I have worked with residential, commercial and construction loans. I truly enjoy the challenge of putting together the right loan package for each and every borrower—since every client’s need is unique. I have more than 22 years of experience helping my clients achieve the dream of home ownership.
Your passion for your job really shows. What is it that you love about your job? I love the whole process of home ownership. I enjoy meeting with a borrower for the very first time and speaking to them about their dreams and plans. Buying a home can be a difficult process, but it doesn’t have to be. I strive to stay in contact 24/7 with my borrowers, I hold their hands and I answer their questions. My goal each day is to make a very complicated process easy to understand and effortless to achieve.
Do you have to be a member of Gulf Winds to get a mortgage? Gulf Winds has some fantastic programs available that cannot be found elsewhere and you do not have to be a current member to start the process. Once a client gets a mortgage with us, they become a member of the credit union and enjoy the added benefit of various other products and services. The loan for our client is processed, funded and serviced locally. In this day and time, not many homeowners can walk in to their financial institution and speak with someone face-to-face about their loan. With technology and automation, a lot of financial institutions refer clients a call center. So many other mortgage companies, banks and credit unions are required to send files out of town, sometimes thousands of miles away for processing and approvals. Why go through all the hassle when Gulf Winds is right here in your neighborhood?
Do you have any advice for those who may be shopping for a home? I like to suggest to anyone considering buying a home to sit down and work out a plan. It is good to take a financial snapshot of where you are and then talk about your dreams for the future. Having a plan is key, and the sooner that we begin planning, the smoother the process can be to reach the day when those shiny new keys are placed in their hands.
