Family Fun Idea: Wash Your Car at Home
Home Car Wash
Consider the humble car wash—a regular chore that takes up time and a small chunk of your cash each month. Think of how much money you could save over the years if you got into the routine of doing it at home. And it’s not just about money. Washing the car is the perfect family activity that kids of all ages can help with.
- Get your team ready: Speak to your kids about whether they’d be willing to help out with the car. Don’t make it sound like a boring chore but, instead, stress the fun aspects of it and the opportunity to spend time together as a family.
- Gather supplies: Of course, you’ll need a few supplies to get the job done right. Pick up some inexpensive buckets, sponges, soap, and any other cleaning materials you’ll need.
- Pick the right time: The idea behind this isn’t just to save money—it’s to provide a new outlet for family time with your loved ones. With that in mind, don’t ask your kids to help right before their favorite TV show comes on or if they have plans with their friends. You want them happy and engaged in the activity, not feeling like it’s a chore to get out of the way.
- Let everyone help: Give everyone something to do during the car wash. Even little kids can pick up a sponge and scrub away. Older children may enjoy more complex tasks, such as working the garden hose. Make sure everyone is involved, regardless of age.
And above all, have fun with your family! You’re saving a few bucks and getting some much needed quality time with them in the process. Make it fun for the kids, and the family car wash may become a regular activity that everyone looks forward to.
