Stimulus Check Frequently Asked Questions

The IRS has the most up-to-date information regarding the stimulus checks on their Payment Information Center website. They also have useful tools to track your payment status and to update your information to ensure you are receiving the payment.

Will I qualify for the stimulus check?

You will qualify for a payment check if you have an adjusted gross income of up to $99,000 as a single tax filer. Recipients of Social Security and railroad retirees are also eligible. Your adjusted gross income can be found on line 8b of the 2019 1040 federal tax return. If you haven’t filed your 2019 taxes, you can use the adjusted gross income on line 7 of the 2018 1040 federal tax return.

How much is the stimulus check?

Individual filers earning up to $75,000 per year will receive $1,200. Those earning up to $99,000 will receive a reduced check. Married couples that file jointly with no children earning up to $150,000 will receive a total of $2,400, and those earning up to $198,000 will receive a reduced check. You’ll get an additional $500 for every child who qualifies. Use this calculator if you are unsure how much of a stimulus check you will receive.

Do I need to apply for the stimulus check?

No. If you’re eligible for the stimulus check, then you will automatically receive a direct deposit or check in the mail from the government.

How will I receive my stimulus check?

If you received your 2019 or 2018 tax return via direct deposit, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will send your check via direct deposit. If you do not have direct deposit available, then you will receive a paper check in the mail.

When will I receive my stimulus check?

The IRS will started depositing the first round of checks around April 15, 2020. Those who have not filed their 2018 or 2019 tax returns with direct deposit will be mailed a paper check starting April 24, 2020. Some paper checks may not arrive until later in the year. We suggest using the IRS' Get My Payment tool to track the status of your payment. We currently do not have any further information on when stimulus checks will arrive.

Is it too late to set up direct deposit for my check?

The U.S. Treasury created an online portal where you can provide your banking information directly to the IRS. This way, you can receive your payment via direct deposit immediately, as opposed to waiting on a check in the mail.

If I receive Social Security benefits, will I need to file a tax return to get my check?

No. Social Security recipients and railroad retirees are not required to file a tax return, and they will receive their payment directly to their bank account or by mail.

How can I deposit my paper stimulus check?

Members can use their smartphones or tablets to easily and securely deposit paper checks. Watch our quick video for a tutorial on using mobile check deposit. Members may also use our branch drive-thrus during regular business hours.
