Mortgage Loan Underwriter

Gulf Winds Federal Credit Union is currently seeking a Mortgage Loan Underwriter in Pensacola, FL. The primary function of this position is to review and analyze mortgage loan requests, verify compliance with mortgage lending policy and all applicable regulations, and render credit decisions on loans.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Reviews and evaluates information on mortgage loan documents to determine if buyer, property, and loan conditions meet regulatory standards. Analyzes documents and other information provided to determine if it validates the applicant's credit risk profile. Documents risk mitigating factors and exceptions. Makes credit decision based on information provided; documents any conditions or requirements for loan approval. Approves or rejects loan application for closing, or requests additional information, and issues denials as needed.

• Communicates any loan conditions or requirements for loan approval to originators and processing staff. Acts as information resource for MLOs and processors.

• Keeps informed of current trends, regulatory changes, and market factors affecting mortgage lending. Assists in any internal quality control reviews and/or audits.

• Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Three to five years of similar or related experience required.

• A two year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program. (Applicable work experience may be substituted for college requirements.)

• Experience in first mortgage and equity underwriting, processing, closing procedures, and credit approval experience required.

• Demonstrated knowledge of mortgage underwriting criteria utilized by FNMA and FHLMC required.

• Knowledge of FHA, VA, and USDA underwriting criteria preferred.

• Demonstrated understanding of credit risk assessment and of complex personal financial and income statements, and mortgage loan documents required.

• Must have good communication skills.

• 10-key calculator and keyboard skills required.

• Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.

AVP of Regional Sales - Tallahassee

Gulf Winds is currently seeking an AVP of Regional Sales for Tallahassee, FL. This position is accountable for growth and profitability of assigned branches through the expansion of member relationships, establishing and attaining sales, asset, and service goals, and developing and maintaining a high quality sales and service culture. This position manages the daily sales and service activities of its assigned branches. In partnership with Marketing and Sales, this position promotes new products and services at its branches and seeks actively to acquire new households .

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

40% Recruits, hires, schedules, and coaches sales staff in assigned branches, conducts performance reviews; allocates resources to meet operational needs.

15% Monitors and reports branch sales results relative to established objectives and ensures appropriate actions correct under‑performance

10% represents assigned branches as appropriate in its relationships with members, sponsor organizations(s), suppliers, other financial institutions and similar groups.

10% Maintains communications with main office; prepares and submits reports; attends scheduled management meetings.

5% Monitors all applicable branch activities to ensure they are in compliance with established Credit Union policies and procedures .

5% Handles escalated issues arising in assigned branches.

5% Participates in development of new products, services and tools

5% Participates in development of strategic goals for organization as required.

5% performs other job related duties as assigned.

Performance Measurements:

1. Meets or exceeds the established branch and regional goals each month and ensures that direct reports achieve their individual goals.

2. Maintenance of budgeted branch operating and growth plan .

3. Development of specific recommendations for improvements to personnel, facilities, products, pricing, policies, and processes.

4. Development of relationships with the community and coordinating branch participation in community activities.

5. Results of member surveys in assigned branches.

6. Promotion of sales culture within the branch ‑ use of relationship building tools.

7. Ability to restore branch functions for business contingency within recovery times set by business constraints or disaster recovery plan.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

Experience: Five years to eight years of similar or related experience. Branch management experience required.


​Education: (1) A two year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in‑house training or apprenticeship program.

Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating, influencing or training others.

Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.

Other Skills: Ability to read, write, comprehend, and speak English clearly. Normally expected to work between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., but may be required to work nights and/or weekends. Must adhere to safety rules and regulations

• Three plus years of experience in mortgage lending origination with proven track record of outside sales ability.
• A high school education or GED.
• Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
• Must have good communication skills
• Proficient computer skills including Microsoft office products: Excel, Word and Outlook.
