Q&A’s with Melodie Greene

We recently sat down with Melodie Greene, the Assistant Vice President, Regional Sales Manager for our Tallahassee region, to find out how she impacts members’ experiences at Gulf Winds. What we found out was refreshing. Not only does she coach associates, but she also encourages members to get the most out of the services available at Gulf Winds. Here’s a look at our Q&A session with Melodie Greene about her part in the “Gulf Winds family.”

What is your role at Gulf Winds?
I am the Assistant Vice President, Regional Sales Manager for our Tallahassee Region. The biggest way that I personally impact our members is by coaching our financial service representatives and tellers. I help our team look for ways that they can help our members beyond why they originally came to us. We go through a lot of training and are focused on banking and finance all day, five days a week. We are experts in our field, and I encourage our team to share their knowledge with every member they come across to find ways to help them improve their financial wellbeing.

What new services do you offer current members and prospects?
We have an incredible checking account, a very cool starter loan program, mobile banking, investment services and some of the most competitive rates in our area. Our FREE High Yield Checking account pays 1.50% APY on balances up to $10,000 and there are many other perks for those account holders like ATM refunds. Our starter loan program is designed to help people who are just starting to build their credit. Under this program, we offer an auto loan and an unsecured loan option. Mobile banking is just one of the many electronic services we offer our Gulf Winds family. Mobile banking gives our members the ability to access their account easily from their smartphone to receive real-time balances, look at transaction history and make transfers. Our investment advisors help members plan for retirement, so they can enjoy their retirement time and ensure everything goes where it needs to when left to heirs. They’re an incredible part of our team, and I’m glad we can extend their services to our members.

What are the benefits of banking with Gulf Winds?
The people. Simply put, our people make the difference in our members’ experience.

What are some common misconceptions about banking with a credit union?
I’ve heard new members say that they thought banking at a credit union would help them build credit. While we do a lot to educate our members and help them repair credit, simply banking with us and having a debit card does not do anything to build credit.

Do you have any advice for potential new members?
A credit union is a member-owned financial institution. This is unique to credit unions, and beneficial to our members. You can get all of the same services you’d get at a big national bank, but you really do have a voice with us. If there’s something we’re doing right, tell us. If there’s something you want to see us do better or more of, tell us that too. The difference between a big national bank and a credit union has everything to do with the response. We pride ourselves in listening to members.

How can Gulf Winds help people in Tallahassee improve their financial wellbeing?
We have really valuable electronic solutions to help members build budgets, set savings goals and keep track of spending. We also have knowledgeable people to help our members navigate through our products and services so that they’re taking advantage of everything they can to maintain their finances in the best way.
